Maya’s New Husband tells the story of Maya Bhargava, a schoolteacher from Mumbai, who falls in love with Bhaskar Sadachari. Her attraction for him defies all reason, for Bhaskar isn’t a man any woman would want as a husband. After a short whirlwind romance, they get married, and Maya tries to settle into her new life with her new husband. This is when her horrors begin.
Set within the backdrop of serial killings in Mumbai, the novel has themes of cannibalism and Indian Aghori ritualism. The book has been highly praised for Neil D’Silva’s unique writing style and the meticulous research into the core themes of the story. The character of Bhaskar Sadachari has been described as one of the most effective villains in contemporary Indian literature.

Maya’s New Husband is Neil D’Silva’s debut novel. It was self-published in January 2015, and then published as a paperback for wider distribution by Author’s Ink Publication. The book stayed on Amazon India (Horror) Bestseller Ranks for 7 months post its release, even hitting the #1 spot several times in that category.
The book was a NaNoWriMo 2014 winner and was also the winner of The Literary Awards India 2015 in The Entertainer category.
It brought immense praise for Neil D’Silva almost instantly, with several top authors commending it for its story, and readers likening the author’s style to that of horror geniuses such as Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and Shaun Hutson.
